I tried to imagine Jesus writing this. And the people walking with him weighing in with their ten cents worth and I just can't see it. This piece uses mock and ridicule, which it applies to Christian stereotypes unrecognisable to people who sit in other Christian 'pews' around the world. There are people who sit in their pews and visit their churches because it's all they have. I understand this is directed at Fundamentalists but if this were written with race, gender or sexuality in mind it would considered discriminatory. Dining out on the flaws of others is self-righteousness isn't it? It's stone throwing isn't it? There was a reason Jesus drew a line in the sand. I don't write here as a Christian, but I do write as someone who seeks a world built on the type of love that includes everyone. I too, will acknowledge Dan's gift as a writer. And for the most part I enjoy it. But having searched, I couldn't find love in this one.
